3D UI Designer at 2K Games, Visual Concepts

Worked on AAA 2K Sports video games on titles such as NBA2K, MLB2K and NHL2K.

  • Developed and executed high-fidelity 3D interfaces by seamlessly transitioning from 2D layouts
  • Crafted intricate 3D models with meticulous attention to detail
  • Streamlined texture optimization processes and crafted lifelike animations
  • Dedicated efforts to ensure that games authentically mirrored the broadcast sports experience

Overlays

This video demonstrates 3D polygonal modeling, texturing and animation, including a reveal and unreveal that provides the gamer with timely starting lineup information. The elements loop until the gamer presses the button, advancing the game and causing the overlay to disappear.

This video demonstrates 3D polygonal modeling, texturing and animation used to display player progress, team and sponsor logos and stats based on the player’s actions.

This video demonstrates the use of camera animation to provide flow throughout the overlays. The unique camera movement shows a reveal, two panels and the team lineup. Team colors, logos, animated backgrounds and advancement change based on the gamer’s settings and selections.

This video demonstrates 3D modeling, texturing and animation artwork with white highlight used by the gamer to select the matchup. Team colors, logos and animated background change based on the gamer’s settings and selections. The action closely resembles broadcast TV.

Menus

This NBA 2K 17 screenshot demonstrates highlighting selection options that allow the gamer to buy elements such as apparel, shoes, tattoos and uniforms. The UI / UX displays a player’s virtual cash and adds the product to the cart for purchasing.

Vertical and grid widgets with masks were used to display elements.

These images show a progression to a more modern minimalist graphics style between the NBA 2K16 and NBA 2K17. The video demonstrates an LED looping animation pattern using team colors. Both images use a resizable spreadsheet with scrollbars and highlighters and dynamic information throughout.

The video demonstrates how players are able to customize shoes to resemble those of famous players and then purchase in-game replicas from the 2K store. I used placeholder geometry for customization options and 360 degree shoe rotation. Options included brands such as Jordans, Reebok and Under Armour, types such as Low, Mid and High-Top, and color, shape and size selection. The two images are stills from NBA 2K17.

This video demonstrates a loading animation displaying the percentage of game loaded, multiple menus with interesting information to entertain the gamer while the game is loading and a selectable options widget to provide a smooth transition between front-end menus and game play.

Models & Textures

This video demonstrates creation of a realistic 3D Celtics logo that was modeled, rendered, textured and illuminated. The challenge was to construct the side and back portions, provide visual depth and ground the figure, with no additional reference data.

The logo was then used as a template for outsourcing the creation of logos for other teams.

This video demonstrates the 2K Sports Reelmaker 3D logo with a spinning, partially transparent filmstrip.

This video demonstrates a billboard advertisement created for the MyPark section of NBA2K16. I used multiple blend shape animations and transparency to give the fire depth and movement.
